Best Market, an independent chain with 30 stores in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, is opening a new 200,000-square-foot distribution center that will also house the company’s headquarters, a supermarket, food incubator and a production facility. The new facility will create 125 jobs over the next five years; about 100 employees will move from the current headquarters location in Bethpage, N.Y.
The former Entenmann’s site in Bay Shore, N.Y., is the first anchor to a proposed regional food hub in the 520,000-square-foot building that has been unoccupied since 2014, and the location will position Best Market for greater expansion throughout Long Island.
Empire State Development is providing the company with up to $1 million in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits, according to local reports, and as part of the agreement, Best Market will invest more than $6 million to upgrade the facility.
