3,500 East Coast Costco Workers Ink New Labor Pact
Approximately 3,500 Costco Teamsters in New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Virginia have ratified a new three-year agreement that includes wage increases and annual guaranteed bonuses that the labor union said will maintain the members’ distinction as the highest-paid retail workers in the country.
The ratification by East Coast Costco employees comes on the heels of ratification of a similar contract by 12,000 California Teamsters last month.
Costco operates 566 warehouses, including 413 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 77 in Canada, 21 in the United Kingdom, seven in Korea, six in Taiwan, nine in Japan, 32 in Mexico, and one in Australia. The Issaquah, Wash.-based company also runs Costco Online, an electronic-commerce Web site.
