AG New England Names Director of Business Development

PEMBROKE, N.H. -- Joseph B. Powers has become the new director of business development at Associated Grocers of New England here, replacing John Gentile.

"Joe will be responsible primarily for new business development in the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut markets," explained s.v.p. sales & retail development Mike Violette in a statement.

A veteran of the wholesale and retail convenience store industry with over 15 years' experience under his belt, Powers has worked for the McLane Co. of Syracuse, N.Y.; the DB Cos. in Rhode Island; and in Massachusetts at Falk & White of Dracut and J. Polep of Chicopee. Powers also worked for Verizon as a national account manager and a channel manager. Most recently, he handled Northeast retail and wholesale channel sales at Euronet Worldwide (Payspot).

Owned entirely by independent retail grocers as members of a cooperative, AG New England, the largest retailer-owned, wholesale grocery distribution center in the region, serves independent retail food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and the upstate New York/Albany area, including nearly 500 supermarkets and convenience retail stores.
