AG New England Racks Up Record Sales Gains

Associated Grocers of New England posted record-breaking sales of over $315 million for the last fiscal year, the company said at its annual meeting,.

"Contributing to the increase was a significant number of new customers, particularly stores in Maine and Massachusetts, as well as increased sales by many existing customers,” said Michael Bourgoine,  the wholesale distributor's president and c.e.o.

The company's sales have grown by over $100 million since 1998, the cooperative wholesaler reported. AG New England posted patronage refunds to its member/retailers of $2,690,307, an increase of $909,768, and the second-highest rate of return in its 61-year history. Total returns to members were $3,384,127.

The largest retailer-owned, wholesale grocery distributor in the region, Pembroke, N.H.-based AG New England serves more than 400 independent supermarkets, community food stores and convenience retailers in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the upstate New York/Albany area. Membership has recently increased to 200 stores, a 56 percent increase from 10 years ago.
