Ahold USA, Shell Help Customers Save on Gas

Ahold USA banners Giant-Landover and Stop & Shop are teaming up with Shell, the No. 1 selling gasoline brand in the United States, to provide the stores’ customers with savings on fuel. As of May 14, Giant and Shell customers in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan areas, and select cities in Delaware and Virginia north of Fredericksburg, as well as shoppers at a handful of Stop & Shop locations in Massachusetts, will be able to shop at their neighborhood stores and get discounted gas at participating Shell stations by using their loyalty cards.

For every 100 Gas Rewards points earned while shopping, customers can save 10 cents per gallon instantly on their next fuel purchase at over 400 Shell stations, up to 35 gallons per purchase. Shoppers can save 10 cents, 20 cents, 30 cents or more per gallon at the participating stations. Points can additionally be redeemed at Giant gas stations. Customers are able to redeem the points by swiping their card, manually entering their card number or entering their alternate ID at the pump, which will instantly initiate the price drop.

“[W]e work hard to offer our customers the greatest value and help our shoppers stretch every dollar,” said Robin Michel, president of Landover, Md.-based Giant Food. “Transportation costs are an important item in our customers’ budgets.”

“[C]ustomers can earn savings on everyday purchases … and redeem their Gas Rewards points for more savings at Shell stations on high-quality Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines,” noted Dan Little, North America fuels marketing manager for Houston-based Shell Oil Products U.S. “In today’s economic times, it’s more important than ever for companies like Shell and [Ahold USA] to join forces to offer our customers optimum savings and rewards.”

Customers earn one Gas Rewards point for every dollar spent at the stores with their card. Gas Rewards points will automatically be added to a shopper’s card and be reflected on the shopper’s receipt and at the pump. Shoppers can also check online to see how many Gas Rewards points they’ve earned.
