Albertsons to Close 26 Stores

Albertsons will close 26 stores in the coming months, including 22 stores from three divisions of Albertsons LLC, and four stores across two divisions of New Albertsons, Inc.

“This is part of our typical review cycle, and after reviewing store performance, our divisions determined that most of these stores could not be positioned for future profitability,” Christine Wilcox, VP of communications and public affairs told Progressive Grocer. “The two Acme stores, however, [will be] closed because the leases are expiring.”

Albertsons recently bought four Dominick’s stores from Safeway, and plans to acquire Lubbock, Texas-based regional independent United Supermarkets, LLC -- DBA The United Family -- which operates 50 retail stores under the banners of United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos, as well as three distribution centers, seven convenience stores and 26 fuel centers.
