Albertsons LLC Southwest Raises $300K-plus for Juvenile Diabetes Research

TOLLESON, Ariz -- Albertsons LLC's Southwest Division raised $304,846 during a two-month long Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) fundraising campaign in support of the JDRF Walks to Cure Diabetes.

"Our donation this year, the largest since we began participating, reflects the enthusiasm of our customers and associates who believe in supporting JDRF's search for a cure," said Bob Colgrove, Albertsons LLC Southwest division president, who also served as the corporate chair to the Phoenix Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Funds raised from the initiative - which involved stores in Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, will be used toward JDRF's mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research and research related education.

The retailer also donated approximately $36,000 in products to provide breakfast and lunch for the 33,000 walkers and volunteers who participated in the JDRF Walks in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz. and Albuquerque, N.M. Combined, these three walks raised more than $3 million for diabetes research.

Albertsons' contribution was the largest single donation the Desert Southwest Chapter of JDRF has received in its history.

Albertsons Southwest Division has raised money for JDRF since 2002, and to date contributed more than a million dollars to the foundation.

Albertsons LLC operates more than 300 stores under the Albertsons banner in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.
