ALDI Enters Rhode Island
BATAVIA, Ill. -- ALDI here officially entered the Rhode Island market with a new store in Warwick yesterday, and has plans for at least three more this year.
The limited-assortment grocer plans to open a store in Cranston by summer and then stores in East Providence and Providence by autumn.
The chain said its retail formula - including selling private label brands, operating only during prime shopping times, having customers bring or buy recyclable bags, a shopping cart deposit system and more - presents "a unique opportunity" for Rhode Island shoppers to save as much as 50 percent on 90 percent of everyday purchases.
Since entering the U.S. market in 1976, ALDI has grown to almost 900 stores in 28 states. The discount retailer sells over 1,300 of the most frequently purchased grocery and household items.
