A&P's First Starbucks Opens in Fort Lee Unit

MONTVALE, N.J. -- The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc. yesterday unveiled its first Starbucks unit, within a Fort Lee, N.J. A&P Fresh store, spawned from a licensing agreement that will see Starbucks locations open in A&P-operated locations in Allendale, Kenilworth and Mahwah, N.J. later this month.

"The unequaled Starbucks brand is a perfect complement to the shopping environment and customer appeal that increasingly defines the new A&P," said A&P s.v.p. of merchandising & supply and logistics Rebecca Philbert in a statement.

Shoppers at the select locations with Starbucks shops will be able to purchase beverages to go, or drink them in a seating area, A&P said. The shops will offer a full beverage menu, including espresso drinks, brewed coffees, Frappuccino blended beverages, and Tazo Tea, in addition to Starbucks cookies, pastries, and other baked goods. They will also market Starbucks merchandise such as mugs and CDs; and Wi-Fi will be available at certain locations.

The grocer will assign store associates trained as baristas exclusively to the Starbucks units.

A&P operates 337 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the A&P, Waldbaum's, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, Sav-A-Center, and Food Basics banners.
