WASHINGTON -- Ashley Peterson has joined the American Meat Institute legislative affairs department. In her new position Peterson will focus on food safety and environmental issues.
Peterson, who comes to AMI with a strong background in agriculture policy development and analysis, earned a Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Maryland, her master's degree in animal science from Michigan State University, and her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky.
For the past year she has served as a Congressional Science Fellow in the office of Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark.), working on agriculture, energy, environment, and appropriations issues.
Peterson grew up on a small cow/calf operation in central Kentucky. She and her fiance currently raise Hampshire and Shropshire sheep on their farm in Frederick, Md.
