Bashas' Expands Deployment of Cart-Sanitizing System

Following a successful four-store pilot that began this past November, Bashas’ is expanding the installation of shopping a cart-sanitizing system chain-wide to help safeguard shoppers against germs.

The Chandler, Ariz.-based grocer is using the PureCart system from the Green Bay, Wis.-based company of the same name, which includes a no-rinse sanitizing solution, user-friendly control system, and portable enclosure. According to the vendor, the system has a 99 percent-plus kill rate on common bacteria (such as staphylococcus, typical E.coli, salmonella and listeria), yeast, fungus and mold; is safe for human contact;and is EPA and FDA approved. It requires only a connection to a 110 VAC, 20-amp power source, a fresh water supply and a drain. The used solution breaks down into carbon dioxide, oxygen and water.

The enclosure is a compact fiberglass unit featuring door protectors at the entrance and exit, and has a fixed guide system to ensure the carts track through the unit at the proper distance from the spray nozzles.
