Bi-Lo Collected 270-plus Tons of Food for Food Banks in Holiday Effort

MAULDIN, S.C. -- Bi-Lo Supermarkets here said it collected a record 100,672 bags of food for food banks and food pantries in its annual food drive, Holiday Hope.

The campaign kicked off on Nov. 7 and ran through Christmas Eve. Bi-Lo’s 222 stores in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee participated. (The Bi-Lo stores in Tennessee call their campaign Share Your Christmas.)

Customers and employees purchased bags of food for $5 each, and employees placed the bags in bins at the front of stores to be delivered to local food banks. Each Holiday Hope bag contained staples such as rice, canned vegetables, soup, and canned tuna -- enough non-perishable food to feed a family of four at least two meals.

Holiday Hope increased the amount of food donated by 51 percent over last year, according to Bi-Lo. The total amount of food collected totaled more than 270 tons.
