Bi-Lo Details $40 Million Capital Plan for Charleston, S.C.

MAULDIN, S.C. -- Bi-Lo LLC yesterday shared details about its latest investment plans for the Charleston, S.C. market, an area that it has served for more than 30 years.

President and c.e.o. Brian Hotarek spoke about the company's capital plans for the region over the next 18 months during the groundbreaking for two new Super Bi-Lo stores. One store will be located in Hanahan, while the other will be built on James Island.

The 63,000-square-foot James Island Super Bi-Lo and the 48,000-square-foot Hanahan Super Bi-Lo should be completed by early fall of 2008, the company said. These will be the first of the Super Bi-Lo concept to be built in the Charleston area and represent an investment in excess of $18 million.

Hotarek said the company plans to continue focusing on Super Bi-Lo, and plans to convert more of its Charleston-area stores to the format. Additionally, it is looking at other potential sites in greater Charleston.

Currently the company plans to open a Walterboro store later this year, and has six scheduled remodels on tap.

The plans represent a $40 million investment in the Charleston market during the next two years.

Bi-Lo operates 225 supermarkets in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee.
