Bi-Lo Teams With Spinx, Exxon to Offer 'Tank Tokens' for Free Gas

MAULDIN, S.C. -- In response to rising gas prices, Bi-Lo said yesterday that it had begun offering "Tank Tokens," which can be redeemed for free gas. It launched the program last month in partnership with Greenville, S.C.-based convenience store operator Spinx Co., and Irving, Texas-based ExxonMobil.

"We feel this is a great way to reward our loyal customers and help everyone deal with the challenges of rising gas prices," said Bi-Lo e.v.p. of marketing and merchandising Tye Anthony in a statement. "Gas prices have become a dinner topic in more and more households, and as oil prices continue to rise, it is often a major consideration in a family's budget."

"In this partnership BI-LO and Spinx will help shoppers stretch their budgets on two of the essential purchases families make every week: food and gasoline," added Spinx president and c.e.o. Stewart Spinks.

Through June 26, customers can earn free gas every time they shop at all Bi-Lo stores in the Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson, S.C., and Asheville, N.C. areas. When shoppers spend $35 or more, they receive one Tank Token. Ten Tank Tokens can be redeemed for a $25 Spinx Gift Card or a $25 Exxon Gift Card until July 3. There's no limit on the number of Tank Tokens that can be redeemed.

Employing about 17,200 people, Bi-Lo operates almost 230 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Spinx has over 78 convenience stores and supplies another 25 with gasoline in North and South Carolina.
