Big Y Appoints V.P., Director

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Big Y Foods, Inc. has appointed William P. Hogan to the position of v.p. of store operations, and Edward D. Burke to the position of director of supply chain management.

In his new role, Hogan will oversee all facets of store operations, including, but not limited to, achieving budgeted sales goals, operating efficiencies, and controlling expenses for Big Y's 56 stores, which encompass such banners as Big Y World Class Markets, Fresh Acres, and Table & Vine. Additionally, he'll be responsible for work force management, front end operations, customer relations, and loss prevention. Hogan succeeds David L. Brunelle, who recently retired after 40 years with Big Y. Hogan will report to president and c.o.o. Charles L. D'Amour.

Hogan began his career at Big Y as a part-time service clerk in the company's Ware, Mass. store in 1972. Later he held several positions at several Big Y stores, including clerk in a variety of departments, and then became a full-time grocery manager in 1975, reaching the position of store manager in Ware in 1979. In 1993 he opened the chain's first World Class Market in Springfield as store manager. In 1996 he was named district manager, and in 2002 director of operations.

As director of supply chain management, Burke will be responsible for service level and inventory control, consistency of supply, and support services through all of Big Y's distribution sources. He will also handle Big Y's distribution services in both Springfield and Chicopee, Mass. Like Hogan, Burke will report to Charles L. D'Amour.

Burke joined Big Y in 1973 at their Northampton, Mass. supermarket as a night stock clerk. One year later, he was promoted to full time as a grocery manager until he was roe to store manager in 1975 at Big Y's Fairview store in Chicopee. He has held various other positions since then, including his 1980 promotion to director of grocery sales. He most recently served as director of service-level management and inventory control, a position he had held since 1993.
