    Bloom Creates VP of Merchandising and Training Position

    Industry veteran Paul Sabattus is the first to hold the position at the Food Lion banner.

    Bloom Supermarkets has appointed Paul Sabattus to the newly created position of VP of merchandising and training. In his new post, Sabattus will oversee all aspects of merchandising and retail training for the Food Lion banner, including pricing strategy, assortment, sales and promotion and margin management.

    Since beginning his career in the supermarket industry in 1986, Sabattus has worked at several supermarkets including HEB, where he held a number of positions, including director of advertising, director of sales and marketing and director of merchandising and marketing, and Sweetbay, one of Food Lion's sister companies, where he was VP of Marketing. In that position, he was responsible for repositioning the brand for better value and the deployment of a sales-focused merchant culture.

    Bloom is a banner of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group. The banner operates over 60 stores in North and South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.
