    Brie, American style

Long a popular cheese in the United States among discerning consumers, soft, creamy brie is set to get even bigger, thanks to the introduction of President log-shaped brie, which New York-based Lactalis USA, a subsidiary of France's Groupe Lactalis, says is especially adapted to the American palate and lifestyle. The new shape was designed to minimize mess and make slicing a breeze; also, each slice fits perfectly on a cracker, which President's research revealed was a staple for entertaining in American homes. Additionally, the thin, edible rind allows consumers to dig in without worrying about whether they should remove it first. A six-ounce package retails for a suggested $6.99 to $8.99.
