    Brookshire’s Nurtures Commitment to Community

    Partner-focused culture, customer-centric philosophy bring success to regional retailer

    In part two of an exclusive Industry Talk video segment, Progressive Grocer Editor-in-Chief Meg Major continues her conversation with Mike Terry, EVP of retail operations for Brookshire Grocery Co., while discussing the Tyler, Texas-based company’s focus on community involvement and its partner-centric philosophy that reside at the center of its strategic mission to help its customers, and the communities it serves, flourish through far more than superior groceries alone.

    “Community service is a donation of time and resources,” Terry says. “We expect our store directors in every city to be involved in their community, whether it be through schools, whether it be through football athletic programs, whether it be through libraries or Habitat for Humanity. … I can’t emphasize enough what community involvement has done for our company.”

    Brookshire’s takes great pride in celebrating partner achievements throughout all levels of the organization, as it is a huge part of the company’s overall philosophy and culture, Terry says. “We are proud to have our partners throughout all levels of the company, which is comprised of over 150 supermarkets in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas that operate under four distinct banners: Brookshire’s Food Stores; Super 1 Foods Stores; Olé Foods; and ALPS (Always Low Price Store), as well as three distribution facilities in Tyler and one in Monroe, La."
