A U.S. Bankruptcy court has approved a request by Bruno’s Supermarkets, LLC to extend a final sale hearing set for this week, to enable purchase negotiations to continue, according to a published report.

Bruno’s was unable to conclude the auction of its assets on Wednesday of this week due to “substantial” negotiations with potential buyers, the Birmingham, Ala., Business Journal reported.

The hearing has been rescheduled for May 4.

Another filing this week revealed that Pembroke, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. was one of the company’s bidding for Bruno’s assets, although the documents didn’t specify which assets.

Birmingham-based Bruno’s filed for Chapter 11 in February.
