    CAB Honors Outstanding Retailers

    WOOSTER, Ohio - Certified Angus Beef (CAB) based here honored Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper Operating Co. Inc. as its Retail Marketer of the Year at its annual conference last weekend.

    WOOSTER, Ohio - Certified Angus Beef (CAB) based here honored Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper Operating Co. Inc. as its Retail Marketer of the Year at its annual conference last weekend.

    Price Chopper's strategic merchandising and marketing resulted in a double-digit increase in its brand sales following the company's introduction of CAB brand natural beef in all 114 stores and dry-aged cuts into 40, according to CAB.

    Product demonstrations, cooking classes and its multi-media, "We Know Meat," campaign led customers to the brand. Price Chopper was also recognized as the No. 4 Top Sales Volume Retailer.

    CAB presented its Retail Advertiser of the Year award to Bellevue, Wash.-based Quality Food Centers, which proved advertising drives sales and customer loyalty. QFC's launch of CAB brand Natural last summer included radio advertising, custom point of sale materials, educational ads and coupons. Innovative promotions have also been held with the Washington Beef Commission and at the Northwest Women's Show. QFC was also recognized as a Top Sales Volume Retailer, ranking No. 10.

    CAB also named Pittsburgh, Pa.-based Giant Eagle Retail Value-added Products Marketer of the Year. Giant Eagle's offers customers a diverse selection of the brand's value-added products, it said. Giant Eagle was also recognized as a Top Sales Volume Retailer, placing No. 3 in the ranking.

    CAB presented its Retail Rising Star award to Greenville, S.C.-based Bi-Lo Inc., which created custom point-of-sale materials and advertising with the "Fork Tender, Deliciously Affordable" theme to introduce the brand. Bi-Lo held joint promotions, a print campaign, and in-store demonstrations, CAB said.

    Tahlequah, Okla.-based Reasor's Inc. received CAB's Top Retail Average Volume Per Store award winner. Reasor's, which offers only CAB product and is a repeat winner of the award, features the brand every week in its circular and on the radio, according to CAB. Television commercials and a new in-store video announced spring and fall sales. Billboards, Web site banner ads, and educational messages in the circular feature the brand. Reasor's store #14 in Broken Arrow, Okla., was also recognized for having the Top Individual Store Volume.

    For the second year in a row, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc. earned CAB's Top Sales Volume Retailer. Meijer remained on top, thanks to its extensive use of marketing and advertising, as well as a diverse product line and focus on ground beef sales, szid CAB. Meijer supported sales through joint promotions and featured the brand at the Michigan International Women's Show, where CAB's corporate chef presented recipes to customers. Meijer also was honored with the Top Retail Sales Volume Increase award.
