Canadian Grocers Extend Hours for Holiday Season

BRAMPTON and ETOBICOKE, Ont. -- Loblaw Cos., Ltd.'s Real Canadian Superstore/Atlantic Superstore and Metro, Inc.'s A&P Canada divisions said they will have select stores open around the clock during the height of holiday shopping seasons to allow customers to buy all they need beforehand.

For the first time, certain Superstores in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan will be open 24 hours a day starting today, while locations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario will be open 24/7 beginning Dec. 20.

"During this busy time of the year, it often feels like there aren't enough hours in the day," said Loblaw v.p. of public relations and public affairs Elizabeth Margles. "Our Superstores will offer relief by providing extended holiday shopping hours so our customers will have greater convenience to get their shopping done."

Similarly, over 124 A&P and Dominion stores across Ontario will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"We know that our customers have to juggle a number of events and activities during this time of year," noted A&P Canada v.p., marketing and corporate development Doug Brummer. "Our goal is to help provide them with convenient shopping hours, the freshest food, value-added services and great deals to make their holiday preparations simpler."

A&P Canada said it has reduced all greeting cards and wrapping by 25 percent for a limited time, as well as offering a limited-edition reusable holiday bag, made from 100 percent recycled material, for just 99 cents.

Over 60 new products are available in A&P and Dominion stores this holiday season, the company said.

Additionally A&P, Dominion, Ultra Food & Drug, and The Barn stores launched the holiday season Friday with a special Air Miles offer that ran through Dec. 9, in which customers earned seven times the Air Miles reward miles when they spent $70 in store.

Canada's largest food distributor, Loblaw is a leading provider of general merchandise, drugstore, and financial products and services.

A&P Canada, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Metro, Inc., operates over 235 grocery stores under the A&P, Dominion, Ultra Food and Drug, The Barn, Loeb and Food Basics banners throughout the province of Ontario.
