Cub Foods Donates $160K to Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank

STILLWATER, Minn. -- Cub Foods based here donated more than $160,000 raised during its 2007 Round Up Program to Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank.

During September and October, Cub asked customers to "round up" their grocery bills to the next dollar, with contributions benefiting Second Harvest. Cub matched its customers' donations, resulting in a total donation of $160,616.32 that will ease hunger for hundreds of thousands of people in Minnesota and the surrounding area.

Each year, Second Harvest Heartland distributes more than 34 million pounds of food to 950 non-profit agencies in a 59-county service area in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.

Established in 1968 as one of the nation's first discount grocery stores, Cub Foods was purchased in 1980 by Supervalu and currently operates 56 stores in the Twin Cities.
