To honor vendors and/or manufacturers for outstanding quality, professionalism and exceptional customer service, the upscale grocer created the award.

In an effort to acknowledge vendors and/or manufacturers for providing outstanding quality, professionalism and exceptional customer service, D’Agostino Supermarkets, Inc. has created the D’Agostino MVP-Most Valuable Partner Award.

Nicholas D’Agostino III, president and COO of the company, named the first honoree, natural and organic food distributor Dora’s Naturals, the winner for the first quarter of 2009.

“Being able to bring our customers quality food products at realistic prices, along with innovations such as new products, new programs and promotions is paramount at D’Agostino and has been throughout our company’s 76-plus year history,” said D’Agostino. “By honoring our suppliers who do just that, we let them know that they’re helping us serve New York in the best possible manner and that we value what they’re doing.”

Nominated and then voted on by key D’Agostino directors, The MVP of each quarter must exhibit the following criteria for at least 12 months:

    --Strong business ethics.
--Timely presentations of new items and programs.
--Responsible follow up of new items and programs.
--Support new and existing items with promotions or events to achieve sales growth.

Dora’s Naturals president Cyrus Schwartz accepted the award. “D'Agostino was one of Dora's Naturals very first customers and continues to be at the forefront of progressive retailing in the metro New York area,” noted Schwartz. “They not only run great stores, but they are [also] a great partner that we look forward to serving for many years to come."

South Hackensack, N.J.-based Dora’s Naturals serves 1,000 retail locations in the northeastern United States. Schwartz’s grandfather, Max Schwartz, founded Elmhurst Dairy in 1919, today one of the largest milk producers in the New York City area. Dora’s Naturals is named for Dora Kraut, Cyrus Schwartz’s great-grandmother.

Larchmont, N.Y.-based D’Agostino Supermarkets operates 18 stores, 15 in Manhattan and three in New York states’s Westchester County.
