    Danimals Offers School Playground Makeovers

‘Rally for Recess’ spurs kids to get moving

With the rollout of Danimals’ “Rally for Recess,” consumers can give schoolchildren in their communities a chance to play outdoors. Through Feb. 8, 2012, families who enter Danimals package codes online at www.RallyForRecess.com will enable five schools across the United States to win a playground makeover worth as much as $20,000, as well as an all-day recess celebration that could include a climbing wall, dunk tank, obstacle course and large slide. The codes are found under the packaging wrap.

A decline in the number of hours kids spend outside has motivated the American Academy of Pediatrics to call the dearth of playtime a national crisis, as decreased physical activity may result in higher rates of childhood obesity.

“Play is a critical component of healthy childhood development,” affirmed Dr. Joanna Dolgoff, a pediatrician, child obesity expert and author of “Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right.” “A lack of physical activity can definitely have a negative impact on a child’s intellectual and physical development.” Experts currently recommend that children daily engage in a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity.

Danimals, a nutritious, on-the-go low-fat yogurt or smoothie in a variety of fruity flavors, is a product of the Dannon Co., which is based in White Plains, N.Y.
