Del. ShopRite Boasts First LEED-Certified Supermarket Design in State

A ShopRite store slated to open in spring 2011 on U.S. Route 40 at School Bell Crossing in Bear, Del., will employ a LEED-certified design -- a first for a grocery store in that state, according to the Kenny Family ShopRites of Delaware, which will operate the location.

The store will feature $6 million worth of innovative energy-efficient equipment, fixtures, lighting and high-end decor, as well as $1.7 million in shelf product inventory.

With 70,000 square feet of retail shopping and warehouse space, the store, which will serve as the anchor tenant at the new retail center, is expected to employ 200 new full-time and part-time associates.

The Kenny family runs four other stores in Delaware. The most recent one to open was a location at Christina Crossing in downtown Wilmington in December 2008.
