Delhaize Names 2012 Store Manager of the Year

Charles Inman, who manages a Food Lion store in Clayton, N.C., was named Delhaize Group’s Store Manager of the Year. One of the company’s 3,400 store managers worldwide, Inman received his award during a surprise June 10 ceremony at his store.

In February, Inman (left) was named Food Lion’s Store Manager of the Year. As a result, he became eligible for the Delhaize Group award, along with 11 other store managers from across the Brussels-based retail conglomerate.

“Charles is an excellent leader in his store, in the community and across our company,” noted Food Lion president Beth Newlands. “He is an incredibly humble leader who inspires his team to deliver outstanding service to our customers, ensuring they are top of mind with everyone who works in his store. Charles continuously helps shoppers and praises associates for a job well done. He is also highly regarded as a strong developer of talent across the organization.”

Delhaize Group’s Store Manager Excellence Award is based on a number of criteria, among them financial performance, operational excellence, people management, and Delhaize Group’s values of integrity, determination, courage, humility and humor.

A resident of Cary, N.C., Inman joined Food Lion in 2002 as a cashier, and has since held such positions as produce manager, office manager and assistant store manager.

Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, a subsidiary of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, operates more than 1,100 supermarkets and employs about 57,000 associates in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
