Former Target Exec to Lead Whole Foods' Non-Perishable Business

Whole Foods Market has tapped former Target executive Don J. Clark as its new global VP of purchasing for non-perishables.

In his new role, Clark is responsible for all functions of the Austin-based grocer's non-perishable business, including supplier relationships, inventory and category management, as well as its exclusive brands program, which the company said generated approximately $1.8 billion in sales during fiscal 2014, from approximately 4,400 SKUs led by Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value line.

"[Clark's] core values align very well with our company’s, and we are confident [he] will execute a range of innovative strategies that help take our non-perishables business to the next level," said President/COO A.C. Gallo.

At Target Corp., Clark helped transform the company's grocery business through investments in merchandising, produce sourcing, store design, supply chain, store operations, technology and omni-channel capabilities. He also served with Target's Bangalore, India office, where he spearheaded merchandise planning and presentation for its U.S. store and .com businesses.

Whole Foods Market operates 431 stores in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom, employing approximately 91,000 team members. The company recently unveiled the locations of its first value-oriented 365 by Whole Foods Market format, set to open next year.
