1st N.C. Wegmans Store Will Be in Raleigh: Report

Wegmans Food Markets, which has revealed its intention to expand into North Carolina, will most likely open its inaugural store in the Tar Heel State in Raleigh, according to a published report.

The Rochester, N.Y.-based grocery store chain has already purchased three sites in the area, the Triangle Business Journal reported, including a 120,000-square-foot location that will anchor the forthcoming Midtown East retail center.

The Journal added that the first Wegmans store in the region could be up and running as soon as summer or fall 2018.

The grocer has also confirmed plans to build a store each in Cary and Chapel Hill, “but the expected construction timeline for each of those projects could push building into late 2018 or 2019,” so the likelihood that the first North Carolina Wegmans store will open in Raleigh is greater, the publication noted.
