bfresh Introduces Electronic Shelf Labels

bfresh is adding an electronic shelf label (ESL) system for future stores, partnering with Pricier, a Stockholm-based provider of digital shelf-edge solutions, on the new technology.

bfresh, a small-format test model that targets urban neighborhoods that value fresh, healthful foods and affordable prices, made the decision at its nascent stage to deploy the ESL system to support staff and serve customers. The grocer learned that shoppers view such labels as “tech-savvy” and environmentally friendly, two things that boost the banner’s brand perception. Moreover, Pricier offers click-and-collect benefits that the chain plans to explore in the future with label flash.

“This decision is of significant strategic value for our U.S. market position as we gain understanding to build and deliver in-store technologies to stay ahead of retailer and shopper needs,” adds Pricer’s acting CEO, Charles Jackson.

Orders are expected through 2017, but they should not have a material impact on Pricer’s 2017 results.

Operated by Fresh Formats LLC, a division of Zaandam, Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize, bfresh has one store, in Allston, Mass.
