Food Lion Revamping Greensboro, N.C., Stores

As part of its ongoing "Easy, Fresh and Affordable ... You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!" strategy, Food Lion plans to remodel 93 stores in the greater Greensboro, N.C., market in 2017. The $178 million undertaking includes not only the remodels, but also further price investments throughout the year, investments in employees and – through the grocer’s hunger relief effort, Food Lion Feeds – the surrounding community.

“We look forward to making significant investments in our stores, our customers, our associates and our communities to offer a new grocery shopping experience,” said Food Lion President Meg Ham. “We want to ensure our customers can easily find fresh, quality products to nourish their families at affordable prices every day, delivered with caring, friendly service every time they shop.”

The remodeled stores will be easier to navigate and feature an expanded variety and assortment of products relevant to customers at each store, including more local items, natural and organic offerings, and better-for-you snack choices.

Greensboro is the fifth Food Lion market area to be remodeled, with stores expected to be completed on a rolling basis between March and August 2017. The chain will continue to introduce enhancements across its more than 1,000 stores this year, as well as remodel additional markets over time. Food Lion has already completed 142 stores in greater Charlotte, N.C., in 2016, 162 stores in the greater Raleigh, N.C., area in 2015, and 76 stores in the greater Wilmington, N.C., and Greenville, N.C., markets in 2014.

Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion operated more than 1,000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, employing more than 63,000 associates. Food Lion is a company of Delhaize America, a U.S. division of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold Delhaize Group.
