Harris Teeter Makes it Easy for Schools to Recycle, Earn Money

Harris Teeter is encouraging schools to go green and earn money by launching a recycling fundraising program through Engaged Recycling as part of its Together in Education initiative.

In April 2010, Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter partnered with Engaged Recycling to promote a sustainable future while supporting local schools.

The 199-store regional retailer offers two easy ways for schools to participate and earn money:  donate individual items for recycling or start a recycling fundraising program at a Together in Education school.

Every time customers recycle gently used electronic devices, Harris Teeter donates $1 to the Together in Education school of their choice. Shoppers can also choose to donate their entire recycling reward to the Together in Education school of their choice, and schools can host a recycling fundraising program to raise money to support vital programs or purchase supplies necessary for the classroom.

Among the items that can be recycled are: music players; laptops; flat panel monitors; PC systems; gaming systems; film cameras; cell phones; digital cameras; GPS systems; video cameras and camera lenses.
