Wonder Gets ‘Smart’ About Packaging

Wonder, America’s best-selling brand of white bread, is debuting easy-to-see nutritional callouts on packages of its Smartwhite and Smartwheat product lines, among other varieties. The information, which will arrive on retail shelves this spring, is designed to help consumers understand the enhanced nutritional aspects of the breads at a glance.

The new “Nutrition Notes” on Smartwhite, for example, will highlight that a two-slice serving contains 5 grams of fiber -- as much calcium as an 8-ounce glass of milk -- no high-fructose corn syrup and 100 calories. Smartwhite also has 33 percent less sodium than regular white bread and is a good source of nine vitamins and minerals.

On new Smartwheat 100% Whole Wheat bread packaging, consumers will be able to see that a two-slice serving has 25 percent less sodium than traditional wheat bread, 22 grams of whole grains and 100 calories, in addition to being a good source of nine essential vitamins and minerals.

Wonder is a brand of Irving, Texas-based Hostess Brands Inc.
