Genuardis.com Celebrates One-year Anniversary in the Delaware Valley

NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- Online grocer Genuardis.com today is celebrating its first year of home delivery service to the Delaware Valley area.

"We're extremely proud of reaching this milestone," said Matthew Gutermuth, president and c.e.o. of Safeway.com, the parent company of Genuardis.com. "We launched our delivery service during a very competitive time. We saw many other companies try to get into the home delivery business, but not many were able to launch and sustain their business with our same success."

Genuardis.com allows customers to shop online at home 24 hours a day. The Web site offers most of the same items at the same club card prices as any Genuardi's brick-and-mortar store, plus the convenience of home delivery. Same-day delivery is available to customers who order before 9:30 a.m.

The Web site is designed to mirror the aisles in Genuardi's stores. Products are organized into various sections, including frozen foods, dairy, meat, and produce, making it easy for customers to quickly find what they need.

Personal shoppers take the online order and shop for each customer in a local Genuardi's stores, taking note of any special customer requests -- such as how green they want their bananas or how thick they want their steaks.

"Our customers are often time-crunched," noted Gutermuth. "By using these time-saving features, they can get their weekly grocery shopping done in as little as 15 minutes. This is especially important for busy professionals and families who are buying large orders and stocking up."

GroceryWorks and Tesco, PLC, the No. 1 food retailer in the United Kingdom, own Genuardis.com. GroceryWorks also operates Safeway.com in the San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, and Baltimore, and Vons.com in Southern California and Las Vegas.
