Renovated Price Chopper Set to Reopen in Johnstown, N.Y.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper here is readying its Johnstown, N.Y. store to reopen Sunday, after an eight-month-long remodel that added 13,000 square feet to the existing 44,000-square-foot store.
Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub will attend the grand reopening ceremony. The Johnstown store has served the community since the early 1960s.
Thanks to the extra space, the store now offers expanded expanded grocery, frozen, floral, bakery, seafood, cheese, and meat departments. "We're very proud of all the new and exciting expanded offers, plus a few new departments," noted Golub in a statement. "We appreciate our shoppers' continued loyalty during the inconvenience of our remodeling, but I know they will agree that it was worth it."
One new store feature is a bagel department, in which classic bagels will be made in-store daily, with more than 20 varieties to choose from and a seating area for shoppers.
On the day of the reopening, which coincides with Father's Day, all dads are invited to visit the department and have a free bagel and coffee from 8 a.m. to noon. From noon to 3 p.m. the Johnstown Little League & Softball League will make a special appearance. Shoppers who make a $1 donation to the league will have the choice of a hot dog, chips, and soda, or a make-your-own sundae. For a $2 donation, they can have both.
The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates more than 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 23,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
