Albertsons Helps Honor Military Family

Albertsons, sausage and deli meat supplier Eckrich and Operation Homefront have joined forces to honor a military family in the grocer's hometown of Boise, Idaho. At a special presentation outside the Mountain Home Albertsons store, the 12-member Davis family received a gift of free groceries for one year at the grocery chain, courtesy of Eckrich.

The event also featured samples of Eckrich smoked sausage and deli meat for shoppers, live country music and an appearance by Boise country radio station 104.3. Additionally, Eckrich distributed $25 Albertsons gift cards to local military service members and their families to thank them for their service.

Captain Marshall Davis, US Army, Ret. was an artillery officer in the Army National Guard for 17 years, deploying to Iraq twice. His wife, Melanie, is his caregiver and a member of Operation Homefront’s Hearts of Valor program, a network of caregivers for wounded, ill or injured service members. The Davises have 10 children.

The giveaway is part of an ongoing campaign by Lisle, Ill.-based Eckrich to honor, thank and support military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront. Since teaming up in 2012, Eckrich has donated more than $2 million to the San Antonio-based national nonprofit.

“These families make great sacrifices, and we appreciate Albertsons’ partnership and support for military families,” said Chuck Gitkin, SVP, marketing at Virginia-based Smithfield Foods, Eckrich’s parent company.
