Food Lion Unveils Another 45 Refreshed Stores

Food Lion has refreshed 45 more stores under its ongoing "Easy, Fresh and Affordable … You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day" strategy, this time in the greater Greenville, New Bern and Jacksonville, N.C., market.

"Our customers told us that they want a grocery experience where it's easy to shop, easy to save and easy to figure out what is for dinner tonight," said Meg Ham, president of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion. "In these stores, we've worked to deliver just that. We invite our customers in the greater Greenville, New Bern and Jacksonville area to come out and experience grocery shopping reimagined at Food Lion and let us know what you think."

To mark the launch of the remodeled stores, Food Lion is giving away $10 gift cards to the first 50 customers at each location every day from Nov. 12-15, and the grocer's Food Lion Feeds giving platform has donated 225,000 meals, or $45,000, to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and 49 local feeding agencies in the region. The donation is part of Food Lion's pledge to provide 500 million meals to needy people and families by the end of 2020.

Better Shopping Experience

The renovated stores now feature an expanded product assortment, including a dedicated gluten-free section, K-cup coffee pods, Greek yogurt multipacks, a new Taste of Inspirations premium line of deli meats and cheeses, and a range of convenient grab-and-go items, as well as pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily and available for customer pick-up.

The grocer has also enhanced its meat department with new additive- and preservative-free USDA Choice Food Lion Beef, which keeps longer via sealed fresh packaging that's easy to open, leakproof and freezer-ready. Select stores in the market will also include Food Lion's new garden cooler, which keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for a longer period.

Further, the company has introduced Daily Dinner Deals, hot meals for families of four at around $10, offered from 4 to 7 p.m., along with all-day daily meal deals, in the deli department. And the grocery chain also is offering three types of savings: MVP On Sale, Extended Savings and Great Value Every Day. On Sale items are Food Lion's usual savings and promotions, including deals from its weekly flier; Extended Savings are prices reduced for a longer period – up to 13 weeks – on items throughout the store; and Great Value Every Day denotes the low prices that are always available on Food Lion private brand items and in-season produce.

Additionally, the stores feature improved, faster checkout technology; larger display screens so shoppers can view items and prices as they're scanned; and more associates on hand to help customers.

The grocer will continue to roll out storewide enhancements in markets over time, including remodels in about 150 stores in 2015.

Food Lion is a company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group.
