Niemann Foods Gives Local Military Family Free Groceries

Niemann Foods joined forces with sausage and deli meat maker Eckrich and national nonprofit Operation Homefront to honor a Rochester, Ill., military family. Eckrich hosted a surprise grocery giveaway inside Niemann’s County Market store in Springfield, Ill., for the Robbins family. At checkout, they received an unexpected gift of free groceries for one year at the store, courtesy of Eckrich.

Chad Robbins served five-and-a-half years in the Marine Corps as an infantryman. His wife, Melissa, is a peer group leader and a certified caregiver to Chad.  The couple has four children.

The surprise was part of Eckrich’s ongoing mission to honor, thank and support military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront. The company has donated more than $2 million to the San Antonio-based organization since 2012. Through July 4, Lisle, Ill.-based Eckrich, a brand of Smithfield Foods, will donate 5 cents for every purchase of specially marked products, up to $500,000, to Operation Homefront to assist military families.
