23 Kentucky Kroger Stores Testing Health Program
Kroger this week will start testing a new health-and-wellness program “Health Matters at Kroger,” which will prominently feature the NuVal nutrition rating system, at 23 of its stores in central Kentucky stores, according to a published report, which added that the stores would serve as a testing ground for the grocer’s entire store base. The trial is slated to begin tomorrow.
“Many of our customers have told us they want to make healthier choices for their families, and we have listened,” Kroger spokesman Tim McGurk told the Lexington, Ky. Herald-Leader.
NuVal features shelf tags with scores from 1 for the least healthy foods to 100 for the healthiest items. The system analyzes over 30 food factors and ingredients to calculate a given score.
Additionally, the Kentucky test stores will feature registered dietitians to run scheduled tours with shoppers to help assess their individual dietary needs. Some tours will be for children. Cincinnati-based Kroger will also hold such monthly events as “Healthier Meal Maker” in April and “Cruising the Aisles with Kroger” in May.
Further, the program will feature LUCY, Kroger’s name for the LC600 Health Station, a kiosk that enables shoppers to find out their weight, body mass index, blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen and other health measures.
