Cub Foods Files Lawsuit Against Rainbow Foods

MINNEAPOLIS - Cub Foods on Monday said it has filed a lawsuit against Rainbow Foods, its parent company Fleming, and H.Brooks, a produce distributor, alleging that for more than a year, Rainbow has engaged in an ongoing scheme to steal Cub's Sunday newspaper advertisement prior to their publication and use the information to undercut Cub's advertised specials.

"Today, Rainbow and the other defendants agreed to the temporary restraining order we were seeking. We will now proceed to litigation on this matter," the company said in its statement. "We regard this as a serious legal dispute, which has cost Cub Foods millions of dollars and may have tarnished our hard-earned reputation."

Cub Foods also said that Rainbow's president had challenged Cub's president to a wrestling match to settle this disagreement. "Rainbow's response trivializes what we believe are legitimate and serious allegations, which will be appropriately addressed in a court of law, not in the wrestling ring," Cub stated.
