Cub Foods Hosts Second 'Create Your Community' Contest

STILLWATER, Minn. -- Cub Foods here is encouraging artists of all ages to show their community spirit during the second annual 'Cub Create Your Community' art contest.

Cub is asking interesting participants to use its paper grocery bags as canvasses for works of art that reflect the communities where their Cub stores are located.

"We created this contest last year to give our customers a way to show their community pride and it proved very successful with more than 600 entries," said Brian Huff, Cub Foods president. "Because of the overwhelming response to the contest, we've decided to do it again this year, and I know we'll be amazed by the creativity of our customers."

One winner from each store will receive $250 in Cub Foods gift cards, while one grand prize winner, selected from among the individual store winners, will receive free groceries for a year valued at $5,200. Winning artwork might be featured on Cub Foods grocery bags, outdoor billboards, or in print advertising after the contest concludes.

Aspiring artists pick up detailed contest rules and free paper grocery bags at their nearest Cub Foods location. The primary building material for all entries must be Cub Foods paper grocery bags. All entries must use at least one Cub Foods paper grocery bag, and can incorporate a maximum of 50 bags. Plastic bags may not be used as part of the entry. The Cub Foods logo must also appear at least once in each artistic impression.

The chain will accept entries from April 30 to June 11, 2006; and individual store winners will be notified starting June 14. On June 27, an event will be held to determine the grand prize winning artist. The contest is open to customers from all 63 Minnesota Cub Foods stores.

Established in1968 as one of the nation's first discount grocery stores, Cub Foods was purchased in 1980 by Supervalu and currently operates 53 stores in the Twin Cities.
