Food Lion Appoints Accounting, Dry Category Management V.P.'s

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion, a unit of Delhaize America, based here, said yesterday it has named Brad Smith v.p. of accounting, and Paul LaCroix v.p. of dry category management.

In the newly created accounting position, Smith will direct Food Lion's accounting department, lead a major portion of the company's ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program, and oversee the SEC reporting of Food Lion's parent company, Delhaize America. He reports to Carol Herndon, Delhaize America e.v.p. of accounting and analysis and chief accounting officer.

Smith joined Delhaize Group in 2003, and has spent the last 18 months as director of group corporate internal audit. Prior to joining Delhaize Group, he was a senior manager in corporate finance consulting with Standard and Poor's. He also served Arthur Andersen as a senior manager in financial audit and mergers and acquisitions.

Paul LaCroix, a supermarket veteran who joined Food Lion in 2000, has been promoted to v.p. of dry category management. LaCroix will give guidance and strategic direction to several category management teams handling beverages, beer and wine, candy, baby food, bread, pet food, snacks, and specialty items. He will also oversee Food Lion's category management training team.

LaCroix reports to Meg Ham, s.v.p. of dry merchandising. He succeeds Geoff Waldau, who is now Food Lion v.p. of merchandising services.

LaCroix most recently served as director of pricing and private label. He has also worked as director of fresh procurement and produce category manager.
