Food Lion Campaign Benefits Children's Miracle Network

SALISBURY, N.C. - Now through April 30, all 1,200 Food Lion stores are conducting a campaign to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). Customers of Food Lion can participate by purchasing paper CMN balloons for $1 each.

CMN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals. Every dollar given during Food Lion's campaign will support a nearby children's hospital. The $1 CMN paper balloons can be scanned and will be added to the customer's total bill and shown on the receipt for easy record keeping.

Food Lion, a subsidiary of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, supports 33 CMN hospitals in its 11-state operations area. Over the last 13 years, Food Lion has raised more than $15 million for CMN. In addition to its annual campaign held in April, Food Lion's employees raise money for CMN throughout the year by sponsoring golf tournaments; holding bake sales, car washes and book fairs; sponsoring motorcycle rides; and hosting carnivals and customer appreciation days.

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, CMN has grown dramatically since its founding in 1983, from a televised fund raiser in a small studio to one of the world's leading children's charities. CMN hospitals help kids of every age and background overcome a range of diseases and injuries.
