Hannaford Opens 50th Unit in Maine

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy, based here, will open its 50th store in its home state on Saturday, March 4. The 36,000-square-foot location, in Bridgton, will feature the chain's usual complement of service-oriented fresh departments and other amenities.

Among the highlights of the new store, which will employ about 100 associates, are a "Harvest Market" featuring seasonal organic and locally grown produce; a full-service butcher shop offering a variety of freshly prepared entrees; a "Fresh Catch" seafood counter; a "Bake Shop" offering such freshly baked goods as artisan breads, muffins, and custom-made special-occasion cakes; and a "Neighborhood Deli" featuring domestic and imported meats and cheeses, rotisserie chickens, and party platters.

The Bridgton store will also carry Hannaford's core private label offering of 2,200 products, as well as its entire premium-quality private label Inspirations line, which consists of more than 400 products, including sauces, mustards, fruit spreads, seasoned deli meats, dipping oils, and fresh crusty breads.

The company added that it has hired the entire team from the town's former Bridgton Pharmacy, including the owner, to run and staff its in-store phaarmacy.

Delhaize-owned Hannaford Bros. Co. operates 150 supermarkets and food-and-drug combination stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts under the Hannaford Supermarket and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy banners. Hannaford employs more than 24,000 associates.
