Kraft To Co-Sponsors Youth Policy Summit on Obesity and Nutrition

NORTHFIELD, Ill. -- In keeping with Kraft Foods' ongoing commitment to health and wellness, the food and beverage giant is participating in the Second Annual Keystone Center Youth Policy Summit this week in Keystone, Colo., along with several nonprofit organizations, a number of other Fortune 100 companies, and students and teachers from across the country.

"Because there is no single solution to the public health challenge of obesity, many sectors of society, including the food industry, must work together to make real progress," said Mark Berlind, Kraft's e.v.p., global corporate affairs. "Kraft is committed to playing a constructive role, and to being part of the discussion around these issues."

"This program provides outstanding learning opportunities in the areas of research, critical thinking, and decision-making," noted Keystone Center president Peter Adler. "By asking questions and interacting with experts and stakeholders, students increase their understanding of this complicated issue and the social and political implications of addressing it."

Besides Berlind, the summit's expert panel includes executives from such firms as Coca-Cola and Cargill, as well as representatives from the worlds of academia and medicine.

Among the schools taking part are Conroe ISD Academy of Science and Technology in Houston; Texas, Berrien County Mathematics and Science Center in Berrien Springs, Mich.; Central Virginia's Governor’s School for Science and Technology in Lynchburg, Va; and the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering at the City College, New York City in New York.

Through its two major programs, the Keystone Center for Science and Public Policy and the Center for Education, the Keystone Center helps thought leaders and decision-makers to address technically complex, politically uncertain situations, as well as helping students learn and teachers teach.
