Little Debbie Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Vacation Giveaway

To mark its 50th anniversary, McKee Foods’ Little Debbie brand, the top-selling snack cake in the United States, will give away 50 vacation packages as part of The Little Debbie 50th Anniversary Great American Getaway sweepstakes.

Each package consists of round-trip airfare for two, anywhere AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., flies in the continental United States; two nights at a Holiday Inn; a rental car for two days; and a $200 cash card. Consumers wishing to enter for the chance to win a vacation can visit www.littledebbie.com, facebook.com/littledebbie or twitter.com/littledebbie by May 31, 2010.

Over 150 billion Little Debbie snack cakes have been sold since 1960 in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and on U.S. military bases around the world. The picture on the box is a portrait of the granddaughter of McKee Foods founders O.D. and Ruth McKee. Now known as Debbie McKee-Fowler, she works as an executive with McKee Foods.

In other company news, the brand is introducing Little Debbie Little Friends Sugar Cookies. Topped with sweet icing and colorful sugar sprinkles, the soft-baked retro treats are shaped like small people and offer authentic homemade taste. Additionally, the box displays a new illustration of Little Debbie on an old-fashioned swing while visiting a farm. A 5.9-ounce box of eight individually wrapped cookies retails for a suggested $1.79.

Besides Little Debbie Snacks, Collegedale, Tenn.-based McKee Foods makes Sunbelt Snacks & Cereals and Heartland and Fieldstone Bakery food products.
