Loblaw Tries a Different Kind of Diaper Derby

To mark this month’s national launch of its private label President's Choice G.R.E.E.N Diaper, Canadian grocer Loblaw Cos., Ltd. provided 60,000 free samples of the environmentally responsible product to child care centers and parents across the country, in Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

Not only did caregivers receive a full week's supply of diapers from April 20 through April 24, but parents also received a coupon redeemable for a free pack of up to 60 PC G.R.E.E.N diapers at their local Loblaw retailer, in the size that best fits their child. The coupon is good until May 31, 2009

“In today's economy, parents watch where every dollar goes, and diapers are a huge part of monthly expenses associated with caring for a child,” pointed out the Brampton, Ontario-based company as a key reason for the prootion, adding “The fact that PC G.R.E.E.N Diapers are less damaging to the environment than ordinary superabsorbent diapers, and priced no more than the leading national brands in our stores, makes them a welcome addition for Canadian families.”

The PC G.R.E.E.N Diaper, the latest item in Loblaw’s lineup of private label products, is made from wood pulp harvested from sustainably managed forests, and processed without chlorine bleach, to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals released into rivers and lakes. Despite these advances, Loblaw's research team is currently working to replace most plastic components of the product with revolutionary plant-based polymers.

"Our long-term objective is to produce a diaper made from 100 percent renewable materials," noted VP, Loblaw Brands, and brand development lead Claudio Gemmiti. "We are committed to helping reduce our carbon footprint by putting the PC G.R.E.E.N Diaper directly into the hands of parents across Canada. We hope they, and many other Canadian families, will make a permanent switch to PC G.R.E.E.N Diapers. Together, we can have a positive, long-lasting impact on our environment."
