PepsiCo Launches New Division to Unite North American Beverage Operations
PURCHASE, N.Y. - PepsiCo Inc. on Tuesday announced it will unite all of its North American beverage operations, including Pepsi-Cola, Tropicana and Gatorade, in a new division led by one of its most senior beverage executives in a move designed to accelerate the company's drive to become North America's leading "liquid refreshment beverage" company.
Effective immediately, Gary M. Rodkin will become president and CEO of PepsiCo Beverages and Foods North America, which will add Pepsi-Cola North America to the already combined Gatorade, Tropicana and Quaker businesses in North America (U.S. and Canada). Rodkin, 50, who since 1999 has served as president and CEO of Pepsi-Cola North America, will report to Robert S. Morrison.
Earlier this year Morrison re-committed to remain as PepsiCo vice chairman, as well as chairman, president and CEO of Quaker, until February, 2003. Morrison will remain as chairman of the expanded division and will partner with Rodkin through a transition.
"The strategy we started more than 10 years ago and continued with last year's merger with Quaker and Gatorade has PepsiCo uniquely well positioned in our drive toward leadership as the total liquid refreshment beverage company," said Steven S. Reinemund, PepsiCo chairman and CEO.
