Schnucks Adds 300+ Generics to Pharm Savings Program

Schnuck Markets last week added more than 300 commonly-prescribed generic drugs to its prescription savings program via several new offers including $4 generics for up to a 30-day supply, and $10 for a 90-day supply on medications to treat a variety of ailments including high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, cholesterol, diabetes, and allergies.

“We have been strategizing for months on how we might offer savings significant enough to help offset rising costs and enhance the one-stop shopping experience for our customers,” said Schnucks v.p. of pharmacy Michael Juergensmeyer. “Back in October, Schnucks became the first chain to offer customers a 21-day supply of any one of more than 50 generic oral antibiotics at no charge. We’ve been able to significantly strengthen the program by bringing many more medications in through our own distribution center. This has enabled us to cut supply chain costs and pass those savings on to our customers.”

As with the free oral antibiotic program, there is no required purchase, no coupon, and no insurance needed to make use of the offers. However, if a customer’s insurance dictates a lower price than $4 for a 30-supply or $10 for a 90-day supply, the customer will receive the prescription at the lower price.

“We recognize that as a major pharmacy operation with multiple store locations, we are in a good position to make affordable medications more accessible to customers in all markets we serve,” Juergensmeyer said.”

St. Louis-based Schnucks operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
