Spartan Kicks Off Habitat for Humanity Fundraising Effort

Spartan Stores, through its D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Felpausch Food Centers, Glen’s Markets, and VG’s Food and Pharmacy stores, has rolled out a statewide fundraising campaign to benefit Habitat for Humanity to support “The House That Spartan Built” and Habitat chapters throughout Michigan.

Customers have an opportunity to donate by purchasing a Habitat for Humanity medallion at all checkouts, including self-scan, for $1, $5 or $10 to help build Habitat homes. When customers make a donation, they will receive four coupons for Spartan Brand products toward their next purchase, and will also have an opportunity to write their name on the scan cards that will be displayed throughout the store.

Commenting on Spartan’s role to address the need for affordable housing with its work with Habitat for Humanity, Jeanne Norcross, spokeswoman for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spartan, said: “We recognize the importance of corporate leadership, fully understanding the power of smaller contributions from generous individuals. Our financial backing — along with our Spartan employees volunteering on the job site — can build not only homes — but hope — for Habitat homebuyers. This temporary boost — along with their 0 percent interest mortgages — is what makes dreams come true.”

Along with the scan campaign, Spartan’s associates have been involved with community events through volunteering to build Habitat for Humanity homes.

With warehouse facilities in Grand Rapids and Plymouth, Mich., Spartan distributes more than 40,000 private label and national-brand products to about 350 independent grocery stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Spartan also owns and operates 96 retail supermarkets under multiple banners in Michigan.
