Super 1 Foods Launches ‘Buy 5 & Save 5%’ Program; BGC Goes Into ‘Frenzy’

Super 1 Foods stores have started a new savings program to help shoppers stretch their dollars, while the chain’s parent company, Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC), has introduced the “Food Club Frenzy” program this month, which offers participating customers the opportunity to win up to $3,000.

In the Super 1 program, called “Buy 5 & Save 5%,” customers who purchase five or more private label Food Club items will save 5 percent on their entire Food Club purchase. Total Food Club savings are printed on the bottom of the customer’s receipt.

“This will help budget-conscious customers and hopefully get them more acquainted with our Food Club brand that offers national brand quality with savings,” said Mike Terry, SVP of store operations for Super 1. “We offer super-low prices every day and are glad to pass on additional savings such as this.”

The program began last week and will run through Feb. 3.

During the six-week “Frenzy” campaign, the Tyler, Texas-based grocer will randomly select 10 customers with a Thank You Card, BGC’s frequent shopper card, and will visit the winner’s home in an eye-catching, customized “Frenzy” van to see how many Food Club items she has. The winner will get $100 for presenting her Thank You Card and an additional $100 for every Food Club product found – up to $3,000.

BGC has run similar programs for customers and employees in the past to build excitement and promote the Food Club brand. As with “Buy 5 and Save 5%,” the promotion aims to reward shoppers for having bought Food Club products.

“People are excited when they are selected to participate, and we’ve always had big winners in this promotion,” noted BGC president and CEO Rick Rayford. “Each has had plenty of Food Club items in their pantry. They know what’s about to happen when they see the van pull into their driveway, and become excited. It’s fun for employees and customers.”

Items sold under the Food Club brand include cereal, dairy products, salad dressings, sauces, frozen foods, laundry detergents, paper products, juices and snacks.

BGC operates 156 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, including 30 Super 1 locations in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, along with three distribution centers and seven manufacturing facilities.
